The Story Behind the Sound
Flamecore is a melodic death metal band forged between Athens and Chania. Built on a foundation of extreme riffs and melodic depth, the band was set in motion by Stathis Lianos and Leonidas Viglakis — two musicians from different cities, united by the same hunger for heavy, emotionally charged sound.
It started with a single guitar idea. Leonidas sent a riff to Stathis. No grand plan, no agenda — just a piece of music that demanded to be finished. That riff became “Plains of Nameck,” and from the moment it took shape, it was clear this wasn’t just a side project. It was something worth pursuing hard.
They wasted no time. A second track, “Only Waste Remains,” came together fast. Then came a spontaneous trip from Athens to Chania — the first time they rehearsed the songs in the same room. That session confirmed what they already suspected: the lineup needed to grow. Panagiotis Tsopelas and Akis Blazakis came on board, and Flamecore became a full band.
What followed were countless hours of writing, travelling between cities, and pushing the music further. The result was their self-titled debut album — recorded across two studios, drums and vocals at Leonidas’s studio in Chania, guitars and bass at Stathis’s in Athens. Mixing and mastering were handled by John Mor at Apex Soundworks. The album dropped in February 2025.
Flamecore now features new bassist Panagiotis Mousouras. The band is on stage, promoting the debut, and already deep into writing new material — extreme, melodic, and uncompromising as ever.
